Zakat in Pakistan is 2.5% of your net wealth in rupees, once it passes the nisab and has been held for one lunar year. The nisab is 7.5 tola of gold or 52.5 tola of silver, whichever applies. The calculator above shows today's nisab in PKR and works out your zakat automatically.
Calculating zakat in Pakistan
For Muslims in Pakistan, zakat is the annual obligation to give 2.5% of accumulated wealth to those entitled to receive it. It applies to cash and bank balances in rupees, gold and silver, committee and savings pools, shares on the PSX, business stock, and money owed to you, once the total passes the nisab threshold and has been held for a full Islamic lunar year. The calculator above is set to Pakistani rupees and today's nisab, so you can enter your wealth and see your zakat in PKR straight away.
Pakistan is overwhelmingly Hanafi, and in the Hanafi school all gold and silver is zakatable, including jewellery worn every day. This matters greatly here, because gold jewellery is central to Pakistani households and weddings, and under the Hanafi ruling it all counts towards your zakat. The calculator defaults to the Hanafi position, though you can change the school if you follow another.
The nisab in Pakistani rupees
The nisab is fixed in weight, never in rupees, so its PKR value moves with local gold and silver rates:
- Gold nisab: 87.48 grams, or 7.5 tola
- Silver nisab: 612.36 grams, or 52.5 tola
Because Pakistani gold and silver rates change daily, and the rupee itself moves, the nisab in PKR is different from one month to the next. This is why copying a fixed rupee figure from an old article is unreliable. The calculator computes today's nisab in rupees from live prices, and shows both the gold and silver thresholds. For the standalone figure, see Nisab Today.
Zakat on gold in tola, the Pakistani way
Gold in Pakistan is measured in tola, and one tola is exactly 11.6638 grams. Standard jewellery is usually 22 karat (91.6% pure) while bars and coins are 24 karat. Zakat is due on the pure gold content, so the calculator converts your tola and carat into pure grams and values it at the live rate. For a full breakdown, see our Zakat on Gold page.
Remember that on its own, a holding below 7.5 tola of gold does not reach the gold nisab. But almost everyone also keeps some cash or silver, and once you combine them, the lower silver nisab applies, so your gold becomes zakatable as part of your total wealth. Enter everything in the calculator and it handles the combination correctly.
Suppose you hold 5 tola of 22K gold, PKR 300,000 in savings, and some silver. The 5 tola of gold alone is below the gold nisab, but combined with your cash and silver your total wealth easily exceeds the silver nisab, so zakat is due on everything. If your net zakatable wealth comes to PKR 2,000,000, your zakat is 2,000,000 × 2.5% = PKR 50,000.
The Zakat and Ushr Ordinance and your personal zakat
Pakistan has a state system under the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance, through which banks deduct zakat from certain savings accounts on the first of Ramadan. It is important to understand that this compulsory deduction does not necessarily equal your full zakat obligation. It applies only to specific account types and not to your gold, cash in hand, business assets or other wealth. You remain responsible for calculating and paying zakat on everything the state deduction does not cover. The calculator helps you work out your complete obligation, from which you can account for any amount already deducted.
What is zakatable in Pakistan
- Cash in hand, in bank accounts, and in committees (BC) or savings pools
- Gold and silver in every form, including bridal and family jewellery under the Hanafi ruling
- Shares on the Pakistan Stock Exchange, and mutual funds
- Business stock and trade goods at cost, plus money owed to you by customers
- Property bought to resell, though not your own home or a rented-out property's value
- Prize bonds at face value, as they are effectively held cash
Your home, your car, household goods, and the tools of your trade are not zakatable.
Which debts you can deduct
You may deduct debts due within the coming twelve months: personal borrowings, the next year of any loan instalments, bills already due, and committee payments owed. You may not deduct the full outstanding balance of a long-term loan or any interest element. In the Hanafi school, which most Pakistanis follow, immediate debts are deductible before you test your wealth against the nisab.

Frequently asked questions
What is the nisab for zakat in Pakistan 2026?
The nisab is fixed in weight, 87.48 grams (7.5 tola) of gold or 612.36 grams (52.5 tola) of silver. Its value in rupees changes daily with local rates. The calculator above shows today's figure in PKR from live prices.
How much zakat on 1 tola gold in Pakistan?
One tola is 11.6638 grams. Multiply by today's PKR gold rate per gram, adjust for carat, then take 2.5%. On its own, 1 tola is below the 7.5 tola gold nisab, so zakat is only due if your combined wealth crosses the threshold.
Which nisab should I use in Pakistan, gold or silver?
Most Pakistani scholars and the Hanafi school, which predominates in Pakistan, use the silver nisab for anyone holding a mix of cash, gold and silver, because it is lower and brings more people into zakat.
Is zakat 2.5% in Pakistan?
Yes. Zakat is 2.5% of your net zakatable wealth held for one lunar year above the nisab, the same rate worldwide. This is separate from any compulsory bank deduction under the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance.
Does the calculator use live Pakistan gold rates?
It uses live international gold and silver prices converted to PKR. Local Pakistani retail rates can differ, so you can type today's rate into the calculator and it recalculates instantly.
