Zakat in rupees, for the whole subcontinent
Rupee is the currency of several major Muslim populations: Pakistan (PKR), India (INR), Sri Lanka (LKR) and Nepal (NPR). This calculator opens in Pakistani rupees but lets you switch to any of them, showing the nisab and gold values in your chosen rupee from live prices. It also handles the tola, the traditional gold weight used across the subcontinent.
Tola and grams
One tola equals exactly 11.6638 grams. Gold in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh is commonly quoted per tola, so to find your zakat, convert tola to grams, value at the rupee gold price, adjust for carat, and take 2.5%. The gold nisab of 7.5 tola (87.48g) and silver nisab of 52.5 tola (612.36g) are the thresholds. For a full breakdown see zakat on gold.
Which rupee, which nisab
Because each rupee has a different value and each country a different gold price, the nisab in PKR, INR, LKR and NPR are all different numbers, even though the underlying weight is identical. The calculator converts live, so you always see the correct threshold for your currency. Most scholars across the region recommend the silver nisab.
In Pakistani rupees, if you hold PKR 500,000 in savings plus 3 tola of gold, the calculator converts the gold to grams (35 g), values it at the live PKR rate, adds it to your cash, checks the PKR nisab, and shows your 2.5% due.
