Do not deduct bills that are not yet due, long term debt beyond the next 12 months, or any interest element. Interest is not a debt Islam recognises for this purpose.
09Farm produceUshr, calculated separately0
Ushr is a separate obligation with its own rules. It falls due at every harvest, not once a lunar year, and its threshold is roughly 653 kg of the crop, not the cash nisab. It is kept out of the figure above and reported on its own.
Value of produce watered by rain or springs10%
Value of produce watered by pump, canal or well5%
Value of produce watered by both7.5%
10Grazing livestockPaid in animals, not in cash
Livestock zakat is not a percentage of value. It follows fixed bands and is paid in animals. Any calculator that charges you 2.5% of your herd's worth is wrong. Enter your numbers and this will tell you what is actually due.
Sheep and goats, free grazing, over one year
Cattle and buffalo, free grazing
Camels, free grazing
Poultry, fish farms and stall fed animals raised to sell are trade stock, not grazing livestock. Put their value in section 06 instead.

This calculator will always be free, with no ads and no account. Your gift keeps it online and supports the work behind it: building tools and media that serve the Muslim community, and supporting the person who maintains them.

This is sadaqah, not zakat. Your zakat belongs to the eight categories entitled to receive it, and this does not count as one. Please pay your zakat to them separately.

What is zakat al-fitr?

Zakat al-Fitr, widely known as fitrana, is a special charity paid at the close of Ramadan, before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. Its purpose is twofold: to purify the fasting person from any shortcomings during the month, and to ensure the poor can share in the joy of Eid with food on the table. It is obligatory on every Muslim who has food beyond their needs for the day, paid by the head of the household for everyone in it.

How much is fitrana?

The amount is one sa' of the staple food of the region per person. A sa' is a volume measure equal to roughly 2.5 to 3 kilograms of wheat, rice, barley, dates or raisins. In practice, most people pay the cash equivalent of that quantity of the local staple, which mosques and charities calculate and announce each year. Because it is tied to the price of food, the cash figure changes annually and by country.

Who pays, and for whom

The head of the household pays fitrana on behalf of every member: themselves, their spouse, their children, and any dependants they support. It is due for children of any age, and some scholars consider it recommended even on behalf of an unborn child in the last part of pregnancy, though that is optional. One payment is made per person in the household.

When is it due?

Fitrana must reach the poor before the Eid prayer. It becomes due at sunset on the last day of Ramadan, but it may be paid in the last few days of the month so that it arrives in time. Paying it after the Eid prayer means it counts as ordinary sadaqah, not as the obligatory zakat al-fitr, so timing matters.

Who receives it

Zakat al-Fitr is given to the poor and needy, the same categories as regular zakat, so that they too can celebrate Eid. It is best given as food or its cash value directly to those in need or through a trusted body that distributes before Eid.

Fitrana versus zakat on wealth

Do not confuse the two. Zakat al-Fitr is a small fixed amount per person, due once a year at the end of Ramadan. Zakat al-mal, zakat on wealth, is 2.5% of your savings and assets above the nisab, due after a full lunar year. Both are obligatory and both are separate.
