Zakat in Malaysia is 2.5% of your net wealth in MYR, once it passes the nisab and has been held for one lunar year. The nisab is the value of 87.48g of gold or 612.36g of silver, whichever applies. Most Malaysians follow the Shafi'i school, which the calculator supports. The calculator above shows today's nisab in MYR.
Calculating zakat in Malaysia
In Malaysia, zakat is managed by each state's religious council (such as PPZ-MAIWP in the federal territories), and many Muslims pay zakat on income (zakat pendapatan) as well as on savings and gold. Zakat is 2.5% of qualifying wealth held for one haul (lunar year). Most Malaysians follow the Shafi'i school, in which regularly worn gold jewellery is exempt while stored gold is zakatable, though some states set their own uruf (customary) limits for jewellery. The calculator defaults to ringgit and supports the Shafi'i position.
The nisab in Malaysian ringgit
The nisab is the value of 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver, updated by state authorities and moving with gold prices. Malaysian councils typically publish a current nisab figure; this calculator computes it live in ringgit. See Nisab Today.
What is zakatable in Malaysia
- Cash in hand and in bank accounts, and savings of every kind
- Gold and silver in every form, subject to your school's ruling on worn jewellery
- Shares, funds and investments, at market value or underlying assets
- Business stock and trade goods at cost, plus money owed to you
- Property bought to resell, though not your own home or a rented property's value
Your home, vehicle, household goods and the tools of your trade are not zakatable.
Which debts you can deduct
Deduct debts due within the next twelve months: personal borrowings, the coming year of loan instalments, and bills already due. You may not deduct the full balance of a long-term loan or any interest element. The calculator applies the rule of your chosen school.

Frequently asked questions
What is the nisab for zakat in Malaysia?
The nisab is fixed in weight, 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver, and its value in MYR changes daily with metal prices. The silver nisab is lower and is the one most scholars recommend. The calculator shows today's figure in MYR.
How much zakat do I pay in Malaysia?
Zakat is 2.5% of your net zakatable wealth in MYR, once it is above the nisab and has been held for one lunar year. On 100,000 of net wealth, the zakat is 2,500.
Which nisab should I use, gold or silver?
Most scholars recommend the silver nisab because it is lower, so more people qualify and more reaches the needy. If your wealth sits between the two thresholds, silver is the safer choice.
Does the calculator work in MYR?
Yes. It defaults to MYR for this page and converts live gold and silver prices into MYR. You can also switch to any of 95 currencies, and overwrite the metal price with your local rate.
Is my information private?
Yes. The whole calculation runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, there is no account, and closing the page erases everything you entered.
